Spry form validation and joomla and ie 6,7

Good evening,
I am using joomla 1.5, got a menu link which is a wrapper that loads an external link which is a small database search engine. I have some spry validation on the form which works fine with firefox and safari.
When I load the joomla site into ie 6 or 7, the validation does not load, you can simply click the submit button and it moves on. What is weird is that after you do that, then hit the back button, the validation works! I tried to see if it is a load time issue, but I have not been able to isolate it.
Do any of you guru's have any idea about how joomla and spry play together? It is a really weird problem that has me pulling my hair out (what little I have left).
