Major SEO issue on all our sites

  • Major SEO issue on all our sites

Posted 17 years 4 weeks ago
    • We recently upgraded a server and have a number of websites using Joomla 1.0X through to 1.5.x stable.

Since transferring the websites to the new server all SEF seems to have been disabled somehow. Enabling it in an admin panel stops all pages being visible except for the home page. We have to run with SEF disabled at present on all sites to keep the sites visible at least. All the usual renaming of .htaccess etc has occurred correctly (indeed some of the sites were running happily elsewhere before the upgrade and restored without change via Virtualmin to the new server.)

The sites were all working perfectly prior to the transfer and all new sites installed from scratch on the new server have the same issue.

We are pretty sure that mod_rewrite is enabled on the server which is Centos 05 / latest php / mySQL etc.

The “old server” was a RedHat Enterprise 4 and virtualmin provided the backup restore vehicle.

Any ideas about what would cause this kind of global failure would be most welcome as it is killing the organic rankings on some sites.

I am sure we have overlooked something basic here but any pointers or observations would be much appreciated.

Given that new sites or even a rocketlauncher package still "dies" when SEO is ticked on I feel certain this is a server issue given the old sites used to work before restore to the new server and that new site installs have the same issue even when installed from scratch with a rocket launcher.

The usual answers of have you renamed htaccess / commented/uncommented the right sections and such like don't really apply as we have quite few installs so we are looking for something new solution wise or clues where to look globally on the server.

Urgent help appreciated as we and the clients are plummeting down google now!
