Help with Error messages

Hi Everyone!
I'm no web designer but am very keen to learn how to use JOOMLA. I have been in contact with a designer who has advised me to join this site for both templates and help.
My main problem at the moment is that I am unable to install templates, modules etc with the following message appearing when I try (this is just an example of one)

Upload template - Upload Error
I have tried using a FTP as described in threads detailing a similar problem but this is not working either...........
Any help or feedback would be much appreciated!

Have I posted this request in the wrong forum? If so could a mod please move it to the correct one??
I have resolved the above error message but am still unable to upload templates or modules...........can somone help or point me in the direction of someone who can help PLEASE!?
