(hunters not porno), both VirtueMart and Microshop not working
Trying to build a custom t-shirt site, real basic ordering mechanism (ideally using PayPal), with the ability to add additional items at a later time. I first went the VirtueMart route - downloaded everything as per the tutorial, uploaded file and additional modules, then went about enabling proper module. A couple things happened that weren't anticipated - first, when at the prompting screen during install (where you choose to go directly to the shop or install sample data) regardless of which one I choose, I end up getting the following error:
ERROR!
a) No Archive Files and
b) no directory structure for VirtueMart.
What's wrong? Either YOU unpack all the files and upload them or I do that (I can do that when Safe Mode is OFF).
Then, when I try to enable the module and do a preview of the site, I get this error:
The configuration file for VirtueMart is missing!
It should be here: /hsphere/local/home/tyculver/gethornymyfriends.com/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/virtuemart.cfg.php
If I disable the module, the site works fine again - I just don't have a mechanism for buying stuff, which sucks
So then I went the Microshop route - during installation, I was given a prompt indicating that I would need to enable legacy mode in order for the shop to properly work. I enabled legacy, but there wasn't an icon for enabling Microshop - it's like it never installed. At that point I went about doing a reinstall of Microshop, but during the course of that process, I received this error:
* JInstaller::install: There is already a folder called '/hsphere/local/home/tyculver/gethornymyfriends.com/administrator/components/com_microshop/' - Please initially check whether:
• the Extension is already installed
• the file names in the XML file are spelled correctly
• there are no XML files listed inside the extension.xml file
• all of the files (not including XML files) are correctly listed in the extension.xml file and there are no duplicate entries
• there is an empty folder listed from a previous installation attempt
* Component Install: Could not copy PHP install file.
I've looked through the site and the previous installation didn't create the empty folder referencek, so I really don't understand what it is that I've done wrong.
Any ideas on how to get where I need to go - install a simple tool that allows me to choose t-shirts, add to carte, then check out? I've also tried uninstalling everything, but it's not working - I've considering just removing the folders from the server, but something tells me that'd only further my frustration. Any helpful solutions will be greatly appreciated!

- I would probably check either with joomla.org or Virtumart's site. It doesn't seem to be related with a template.
