Best way to display videos?

    • Hello everyone,

I am attempting to figure out the best way to integrate a set of about 10 videos into my website. My client does travel DVDs and would like to upload a 3 minute preview of each DVD. I have looked into a few different extensions (such as AllVideosReloaded), and I have been able to display video (either local or remote) within content, that much I've figured out.

However I'm looking for a way to display the videos nicely, perhaps something with thumbnail previews where you can click on the thumbnail and the video pops up a la the RokZoom images extension, but with video.

Anyways, I'm open to any suggestions on good ways to display and integrate a small video library into a Joomla 1.5 site. I realize that they have the RokVideoScroller in MediaMogul and such, but this really just displays the thumbnails (which is nice), but doesn't really help with actually presenting or playing the videos.

      THANK YOU!

    • Try Seyret. It's easy and looks really good. What's best is that your client can add and remove his own videos because it's just that easy. You can also choose to create a youtube presence for your client and feed the videos through the Seyret player. Again, the user can keep it updated. Hit www.joomlaholic.com for Seyret.

    • Richard,

I have seen a plugin that demonstrates clicking on a link to display a "Lightbox" type window with a youtube or Google video. I would guess a thumbnail would be just as easy but not sure. Since it's a competitors product and out of respect for RT, I will PM it to you if you want rather than post it here.

I would love to display youtube or Google videos in something like Rokslide or with RokZoom if its possible.

    • can be done sexy with shadowbox

full instructions on how to do it are on that site.

incidentally, we also packaged it up about 3hrs ago, isn't even on the JED yet.
      www.ninjoomla.com/index.php?option=com_c...iew&id=138&Itemid=44

requires membership though, so possibly not the best option for ya. This has been done over many times with many flavours since the original lightbox, so i'm sure there are some free extensions on the JED that do it.

    • As I recommended Shadowbox earlier, I should mention that it is now a Non-Commercial extension... does not require registration to download. Available in 1.0 and 1.5 versions.

    • Would you recommend using the Mootools library choice when using Ninja Shadowbox with RT templates?

Why would you choose to use it as a module over a plugin or vice-versa? I know, newbie questions. I am reading a book on Joomla (Joomla 1.5 Book) so I hope to be up to speed soon!

      Thanks

    • When given the option, it's almost always best to choose the module.
Reason: mambots often fail to run on component pages.

If your template or other extensions on your site use mootools, then it's best to use mootools, rather then have two different js frameworks on your site. (will mean longer load times)
