Dedicated or Shared Server?

- I am going to be starting a Real Estate site soon and was wondering about what type of server to use with it: Dedicated or Shared? I currently use a shared server with Bluehost.com. After using several terrible hosting companies, these guys have it together. Never had a single problem with them and if I ever need any help I just call them up and they seem happy to help. Just not sure if a shared server will do the trick with a Real Estate site. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

you're going to need some big traffic on a website to require a dedicated server

Thanks Damo! I figured that it might not be too hard to move to dedicated later, I guess I'd have to copy the databases... and I have more than one domain, so I could redirect the main domain while converting. Not sure if that's how it would be done to convert but makes sense. Of course this is all new to me. Thanks again for your tip!

Shared hosting is fine to begin with. To move your site to a new server, the best way is to create a joomla installer (what RT calls a rocketlauncher)... easily done with joomlapack.

Could always go with a VPS.
Start with a $50/mnth for a box with 350MB dedicated ram, burst to 768. Cpanel will use between 90 and 160MB, leaving you with more then enough RAM to run Joomla and handle decent visitor numbers. Then, when loads become prohibitive and you're site is generating more income, you can increase RAM as needed (up to 2GB) with just an email to the webhost and no downtime.
A dedicated server on the other hand will require downtime for any change in RAM, HDD space, or CPU power.
I use Servint, but there are numerous good webhosts out there. Whatever you do, DONOT trust ANY hosting reviews website. Yoou can also try visiting the webhostingtalk forums for good info from real server admins/owners who will compete for your business. - Say no to Internet Explorer 6.

Yeah was on the 11th. Was a great day.... I spent 12hrs straight on the PC.. then 10minutes opening presents, then another 6hrs on the PC ;D - Say no to Internet Explorer 6.

- Have you thought about semidedicated servers. I really like jaguarpc and I have been through 7 or 8 hosting companies in the last couple of months. Right now they have a special on semidedicated servers for $25.50/month if u use the coupon code endless2008sdx.
