j1.0 vs j1.5 for new populus site?

- Hello all, a J-newbie here. I'm developing a new community type site using populus, cb, fireboard and probably one of the streaming video plugs. I'm inclined to just jump into j1.5 legacy, knowing that everything will come along shortly in native form. But as I'm new to all this, I don't know if I'm asking for more trouble than I expect. Any thoughts or general recommendations would be appreciated.
