    Google Calendars

    • I am wanting to do some things with Google Calendar...

I don't have any problem pasting the embed code directly from Google into a site, that is pretty easy.

I have used the component for it as well as the modules... I just don't like the way they look...

You guys at RocketTheme are the Gods of graphics arts design. Can yall come up with a better way? I know it is possible to pull your calendar data with an RSS feed, which is what needs to happen. Currently all the modules are iframes, which is just a real messy hack.. for instance, the calendar can be displayed in a real small module with only the dates showing, and if an event is on the calendar, the description shows up in a floating div when you click the event date... unfortunately because it is in an iframe, you can't see the whole thing.

(for an example, look at the google calendar I have implemented here: http://www.fishwestend.com - I don't know how long I will leave it there though, it just aint right for my design)

I am only a padawan when it comes to PHP handling XML/RSS..

One developer has got it all figured out, built a really sweet Flash interface for Google Calendars... http://www.sketchography.com/demoSite/calendar.php

I believe that his whole Flash Blocks system was built on top of Joomla... Pretty slick idea... too bad he made it closed source, or it may have actually taken off...

Anyhow, I know that it is possible to do this using php to pull the RSS feed - perhaps do this as a scheduled thing once an hour with a cron job, so that you aren't constantly making connections... anyhow... maybe I am figuring it out just talking about it... once it is in a database, figure out how to display it in a nice css based display form so that it can be styled along with the templates....

Just thinking out loud - please let me know your thoughts... I love the functionality of the Google Calendar, just cannot get anyone interested in the clunky interface.
