    • I've just made a rocket launcher installation of the catalyst template - It's the Joomla 1.5.3 edition.

      During the installation procedure I got a message to say that the configuration.php file could not be written.

      The code for the file was listed in a box on the installation screen. I was asked to paste it into a new configuration.php file and upload it.

      I did this. The install seems to work OK, but I can't make any changes to the configuration file from the Joomla control panel.

      I get the message:

      An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write

      In the Joomla 1.0.x there was a little check box which turned this feature off - can't see it in 1.5.

      Please could you tell me how to make the change.

    • Hmmm...well fixed the problem after a fashion...

      Still need some advice on this if someone can spare a few words of wisdom.

      Had to modify the file permissions of configuration.php to Public:read/write - in order to get my changes accepted.
      Right clicking in Filezilla showed me the existing permissions and allowed me to change them.

      Once I'd updated my file I then change the permissions back to the way I found them...

      What is with that? Is it some peculiarity of my host, or something to do with the way the rocket launcher pack was configured? or....
      ...One thing I forgot to mention - my rocket launcher pack was unzipped onto a PC, then Re-zipped before uploading onto the linux server. Might this have had something to do with the file permissioning?

      What is the correct / optimal setting for configuration.php?

      When i first checked it was set to 644

      Owner Permissions: Read, Write
      Group Permissions:Read
      Public Permissions:Read

      Shouldn't I be the owner?- if it's not me, then who is the owner and how do I change the owner?

    • Just tried to edit the html on the server - and I'm having the same problem. Got the following error messages when I came to save the edited file...


      * Could not make the template file writable
      * Could not make the template file unwritable

      What can I do to change this?
