database migration question

hi everyone!
i was trying to migrate my site from 1.0.15 to 1.5 (both on local server) just for some training and it seems that it worked almost fine.
i installed the 1.5. joomla in a subfolder inside my 1.0.15 installation and used the migration tool.
my only problem now is, that after my database is being used with 1.5 it does not work anymore in the 1.0.15 site.
i was hoping to keep my site on 1.0.15 intact until everything with 1.5 is fine and all 3rd party extensions are installed.
now my question, how can i copy my database, so i have the original db in 1.0.15 and the db copy migrated to 1.5??
i hope you guys get what i mean, dont know how else to explain.
any advice would be great.
