Re: Best way to show photo retouching portfolio in Joomla!?

    • Hello,

Part of my work is image restoration and retouching. At the moment I am using a JavaScript behavior to show the before/after comparision using a mouseover. I'm creating a brand new Joomla site and need to find a solution to show before and after images.

You can view what I am talking about here:
      REMOVED
Click on each portfolio to see what I am describing with the mouseover.

I am not sure how best to present a before/after portfolio in Joomla. I really don't want to put the images side-by-side as that has much less impact for the user seeing the image transition.

Does anyone know of a component or mambot or some other way I can present my portfolio's with before and after images? I would prefer a non-Flash option, but I am open to it if it is the best option.

      Thanks!

    • Try JCE editor and it's plugins.
When you insert an image, there are a few options available.
      + Image
+ Rollover image (with both mouse over and mouse out options)
      + Popup
      So there you have it.
+ Image --> the original image
+ Rollover --> the touched up image

That will do what you've always done.
I am sure there are other options out there.

      Thanks Leeann.

I did see this functionality in JCE. I think I will go with it if I can't find something better.

I saw this cool flash app. that has a slider that slowly transitions the before and afters.
I wish I could find out how to do that.

The only reason I am scared of flash is because I don't want people to not be able to see the images if they don't have the plugin.

      I appreciate your feedback!

In Flash, it's just a simple dissolve from one image to the other and text button on each side performing the trigger action. Make sure the images are positioned correctly or the effect will not look good.

How many 'before and after' sets of images do you have? If it's just a few and you will size the images to what you need, I can knock these out quickly for you. No charge. Just put the resulting Flash (.SWF file) into your content and select SAVE. That's it!

    • You might look into this module. It might work for what you're talking about as it transitions between pictures. Then publish the module on your portfolio page with a bunch of before and after pictures and let it rotate through the folder.

    • Mark,

When I go to that page it says:
You are not authorized to view this resource.

Not sure why that would be.

      Dave,

Your offer is so kind, but I would need to find a solution that I can do as I am constantly updating the portfolio. It changes at least bi-weekly. I have no idea how to start in Flash. I suppose I could learn. In fact, I want to learn.... but I have so much other stuff on the go right now I can't seem to dedicate the time.

Maybe I will just have to use JCE to do the old JS way for now and 'upgrade' the method later on.

      Thanks!

    • Very good, Natalie. Good luck to you. Post a link when you get the site up. We'd like to see it.

Actually, when inserting an image in an article when using the default TinyMCE Editor, one has the option of inserting a rollover image - see attached pic.
