Logging Out Issue

    • Hey,

I've noticed a logging out issue with my site lately that started when I changed to the rockettheme template and joomla patch update (both done same day). The problem is when a user logins, they go and visit a different page on site but then they return to the home page they are automatically logged out. Sometimes if they don't use the site for 10minutes they are logged out to when I have the session lifetime set to 45minutes.

If they log back in, it shows up in the backend they logged in twice. Also if the member has this problem (above) and click logout after the relogged in, the page refreshes and they have to log out again for the 2nd time - its like logging out of two accounts.

I usually experience the same issue to and I am the administrator. Its strange because it doesn't happen all the time - only now and again daily.

Is there something wrong with my Joomla install or something else? :(

I have Joomla 1.5.4 installed but going to switch to 1.5.5 over the weekend to see if it cures the issue.

    • The "Remember Me" button doesn't work at all - I am using CB 1.1 on J1.5

If the members have to log in again and again - the backend where the list of members who are logged in can get very long. I might have the same member logged in 3 times and others 5 times ???

However I've tried to disable some components and the logging out problem is starting not to happen "as much".

    • Same thing happening to me. Has anyone found a cure since this thread was last active (Auguest)?

    • Make sure the url is the same. For example if you visit your site with the "www" in the url address and login then visit a page without the "www" in the url then it will show you as longed out. What I did was made sure the "www" was always in the url and if it wasn't then the user would be redirected with it in it.

    • Good tip. So what's the best way to ensure this? Do I need to examine every module, component and plugin that may have a URL in it?

Just the page url. For example if your site was google I could either type in
      A) google.com or
      B) www.google.com

If I logged in at google.com then visited say the news page which had the "www" in the url then it would show me as logged out.

That was how my system was setup though, yours could be different.

Make sure you have consistently in the url's :)

    • Thanks for the advice and quick replies. I'll start examining my URLs for inconsistencies.

    • Ok, I think I found the biggest culprit: the Home button on my menu. It does not have the WWW in the URL, whereas everything seems to include it. Trouble is, I can't see where to change the URL for the Home menu button.
