Going back to school: Need a new small, very portable laptop. Any suggestions?

Right. I'm going back to school for 6 months to do an intensive Swedish course and I'm going to either sitting on a bus/train/taxi for about 3 hours a day so I'm going to need a laptop that is small (not that fussed about weight).
I'm a PC man, but could be convinced to go Apple but did it once before and it went wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions for a small machine? I've currently got a Dell XPS 17" and while it's great - it's actually too big to carry around during the day.

small ... 13" or 14"
i'm looking at the 13" xps, 1.83 GHz and 2gb SDRAM .. but thats only because i've got xps - i was basically hoping that someone has got something that they're happy with that they can tell me about
the xps is just over £500 too, which is a good price

I have been buying Dell laptops for awhile, but after my last attempt to purchase fell through, out of disgust, I went with HP and got much more machine for much less money...think I am converting for laptops (and going to go Apple for my desktops).
HP has a 30% off coupon code every ohter month or so, too...worth a look. They don't jack the prices up on the upgrades when the coupon comes out, either, unlike Dell. .
Also going back to school but i got mine for free from my teachers. Going on highschool in Skövde and i hope i will have time to start on collage next year.

I've got a dell latitude d630, specs are 14" non glare panel, 2 gigs of ram, 2ghz core duo, 160GB hdd, x3100 graphics(intel onboard), and most importantly, the larger battery.
The larger battery allows it to run about 6-7 hours, depending on use. I use it mostly for classroom work as well, office, spss and email/icq . But it's also good for watching a dvd, as it's capable of up to 4 hours of playback. Bought it about 7 months ago, cost me about 1100€ back then.
