The shop has never had any computer systems and all orders have been "put in the book" (of which there are many). However, he is modernising the business and part of my brief is to help him identify appropriate software. As such I am looking for a software solution like SAGE or MYOB that can handle stock, orders, accounting, customers, suppliers etc etc BUT can also interface with Joomla.
The ideal situation is that customer orders can be displayed in a customer only section of the website (perhaps using CB). Can anyone suggest a suitable programme that they have heard of or used that would fit the bill?

- IXXO Cart integrates with Joomla, handles stock and I think integrates with your offline stock management system.

cheers Donna - will have a look. We will creating an online shop as well but we need to get some systems into the physical shop before we get the online shop running

- Have now completed a very thorough evaluation of Ixxo Cart - it is a mind blowing bit of software. It's pretty expensive but it's a "turn key application" and when you offset the cost against the hours configuring something like virtue mart (nothing against VM) it's a definite winner for me.
