Should RT sites validate? Should I be alarmed if I have 30+ errors?

    • Just wondering. For example, I have Hyperion installed on one site and only run 2 backend modules (JCEditor and Linkr). The RCR and other bells and whistle are not even used on the site and still, it has many many errors. Should I be alarmed? Site runs pretty well. Thoughts?

    • All seem to validate out of the box; you have a link? Perhaps you have some simple tag issues?

In my old DNN world, the platform using the default template used to ship with nearly a 100 errors (laden with tricky table code :) ), so don't be alarmed...be happy you only have 30. :)

I have one on a new quick site that I can't figure out and it's bugging me, but I do try to keep them to a minimum...but don't lose sleep over them, either. :)

    • 1. Your <table> error is to do with the content area. You'll need to follow the exclusion tutorial on making the component area not appear on the frontpage www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?t=22175&rb_v=viewtopic

      2. You cannot have <style> tags not within the <head></head> area of the HTML structure.

      3. In the link, change & to &

Thanks, sir...if I added content to the content area, would that clear it up...hate to remove the option of using the content area on the frontpage just for a simple error. ;)

The style tag up there is from the search, I thought....Google search used in a module position...will have to investigate that one.

      Thanks, man.

    • Yeah, publishing content should fix it lol :)

As for the style tag, can you modify the module or script so that CSS code is in the template's template.css file instead?

    • It's merely a "custom HTML" stock module with a cut and paste of the Google Search code...going to investigate this one this morning, thanks.

I'll through something in the content area, too. ;) I now see why the Launcher package had a simple ad graphic in there...makes sense. I looked all over for removing it, thinking it was a module, but actually a content item with a simple IMG tag. ;)

the site in question is www.gpcinthelooponline.com

Again, as far as I can tell, it functions well (aside from the usual IE6 hassles). Just wondering if I should be concerned with the errors I receive in when validating with w3c's tool.

    • Hello Thomas,

It seems in your site's case, that nearly all of the errors appear to be due to & characters in the url. Unencoded ampersands can create a lot of errors in the validator results. If you have added any links to various areas of your site in your content manually, such as copying and pasting the url into your content or modules which contain & in the link, try changing each of those & to &. If you haven't added those links manually, then it might be outputted by a third party module or component (if you are using one).

While having these type of errors shouldn't cause any browser issues or loading problems if ignored, something like this is generally pretty easy to fix and its nice to have your site totally valid if possible.
