At this point - let it stand. This could now be a DNS or whatever it is thingy that those wacky servers and host do...let it sit for a little while and see if it starts reading it in a few hours. Your host system could of picked up the redirect and then wigged...I am not an expert but I've seen weirder.
I will look up on the web too about this and post any of my findings.

If it is any help I usually do this -
ftp a .htaccess file into your site-root with DirectoryIndex set to index.htm, this usually overides a server setting and sends a visitor to your splash page whilst you can work on the joomla install which can be accessed via yoursite/index.php
Not sure if that helps but it works for me,
