How long does it take to install the RocketLauncher?

    • Ok this post might not be useful for everyone but some people might wonder how long it takes to install Joomla with the RocketLauncher. :D

I'm working on a new site so i downloaded the Replicant v2 RocketLauncher and unpacked it locally on my computer. I wanted to know how fast you could install Joomla so i "timed" my own installation procedure...

I uploaded the RL, installed Joomla and removed the Installation directory and logged into the admin part of Joomla in 17 minutes and 44 seconds. How long does it take you guys/girls? :)

(Yeah i was bored so sue me... :D )

    • can you not upload as a zip and then unzip on your actual hosting (e.g. with cpanel or whatever?)

Yes with cpanel (File manager -> Extract File Contents), but not with Plesk.

    • Yeah, if you can upload and extract the package on the server it cuts the time in half.

    • I don't trust such scripts though. I wanna do it the old-style :D

Then you know all files has been upped with the right permissions etc ;)

    • That's half the battle!

I once tried 15 times to upload Media Mogul to my host.

3 different machines, 3 different FTP clients, with speeds of cable or above.

Every time I tried to install, or got it installed, some file was missing.

Not much can go wrong just extracting a package on your host.

Try it once and you'll never go back to the 'old-fashioned way'...

    • Funny, i've never had that issue with missing files on my host :)

I just start FlashFXP and make a cup of coffee. I think your issues might either be with the host or some bad peering etc...

In theory that should be the good and easy solution but i've seen issues with that method. But yeah it should be ok if the host is decent :)

Hmm, would be interesting to test if a single file upload + extract on the server will be faster than the other way around. On a slow host then i'm sure the single-file alternative would beat the other hands down, but on a fast host then i'm not so sure which method that would win...

      Anyone care to test? :)
