I find Google analytics works well for Joomla sites. Register at
www.google.com
and insert the analytics code into a module that loads on each of your sites pages.
Works fine.

BSQ sitestats and it's equivalents should be avoided like the plague. They will bloat your db with stats that don't tell you all that much compared to alternatives such as Google analytics, getclicky.com, or woopra.com.
