A new version of
joomlaXplorer
(1.5.0) has just been released.
I have added full FTP capabilities to the component, so you can login to your FTP server from within joomlaXplorer and access the local filesystem on the server by FTP. This finally solves the problem of not being the "owner" of a file (and thus not being able to chmod or modify a file/directory).
jX now allows you to create symbolic links.
You can bookmark directories now and quick jump between bookmarked folders.
Additionally you'll get an improved archiving feature that allows creating large archives without a timeout (thanks to Ajax by mootools).

- Glad to hear that the owner situation has been updated. The last time I used JoomlaXplorer it was frustrating enough that I gave up on using it and went back to normal FTP.

I would recommend do not use this version. I and couple other ran into a show stopper problem with this version. Read below for more details

grr... everything was perfect in 1.5.0 for me. Now I get this when I go to FTP Mode in 1.5.1:
