Multiple Site Problem, Please Help

    • Hello All,
I recently completed a site, and what I wanted to do is duplicate the site to use as a template for another site. So I backed the original site up. (that went ok) I restored the site on another domain and made the changes to the duplicate site(changing the logo, etc.) Then I went back to the orignal site and low and behold. Every Change I made in the administator section, (changing city names in modules and articles), are now on the original site. It's like any changes i make on either site saves to the other. Now I will tell you, not that I know it makes a difference, but with my hosting account I can host as many domains as I want. Each domain has it's own folder, so I'm baffelled. I need to update them individually. Thanks.

I thought you use the same one database for all the sites you duplicated. Don't forget to create one new database for the new duplicated site and import the old database to the new database. Change the configuration.php too.
To make it easy, just use JoomlaPack

    • Thanks for the advise. I did use Joomlapack to transfer the site. I did not however create a new database. I'll try that and changing the config php file. Any instructions on how to do this. Thanks

    • Since you're on the same host / domain:

      1. Create a new database through your host's CP in MyPHPAdmin.
      2. Upload the data to it from the original site.
      3. Edit the configuration.php for the new site to match the new DB information.

Should be that simple, I think...
    • Thanks,

    • Problem Solved. The whole issue is to make sure you change the data base settings on the new site. Then change the config.php file to look for the new data base. sounds easy but it almost killed me. Thanks everyone.

make sure you also change some componant url settings. I know joomlapack has one you need to change so you save a backup to the new site folder, and not into the other sites folder.

    • I don't really understand what you mean, but, I've backed the site up, made sure the database is right, changed the files in the config. php and everything is working fine. If there is something you think I 've missed let me know. So far other than customizing the new site, everything works fine. They now work as independent sites, but with the same template style. Thanks

    • He means that in some components u have to enter a specific url (example: where to store the backup-file). These things u have to update in the components settings of the new site.

Time to create page: 0.088 seconds
