    • I'm wondering though if I could build the new site on one I have hosted but haven't worked on for a while. Couldn't I set the whole site up, then back up and load to new host with FTP and then make changes to files such as domain name changes etc. It has been a while but I'm sure I did something along those lines before

    • No actually, bugger it ... scratch that ... I got carried away with the idea of relative paths.

If you're moving your site, you won't need to worry about altering anything in your template.

The big thing is the content you put into the Joomla Database (articles and such).

So, back to my first, easy answer.

For any INTERNAL links - to images, urls in menus or articles, etc. etc. etc., just knock the domain name off the front of the URL. So:

      www.mysite.com/images/img.gif
      becomes
      images/img.gif

Very sorry for the confusing post - I've been researching a way to hack the Fireworks file format for all the "I want to have my cake and eat it too" posters in the Fireworks forum. I think that one's got me beat though - aside from the fact that it may be illegal for me to do, there's just SO MUCH extra information stored in the private data blocks of a Fireworks PNG ... anyways ... that's not for here.

Yes, yes you could. As I said above - you shouldn't have to worry about the majority of it. Just try to remember the relative paths for images and links in content. Something like JoomlaPack won't pick that stuff up (and it would be a pain to do manually regardless of the method you use).
