Joomla for Trade Schools

    • Hello everyone,

My name is Bob and I'm new to Joomla so please bear with me. I can code in perl, basic, js, and html.

I'm setting up a site for the school I teach at using 1.5.7 and all seems pretty straight forward.

I need to make a link on my site for Instructors to Logon to, which would take them to a page that allowed them to pull up any of our students progress and enter/update progress/grades for that day/week. Kind of an ongoing student progress app that could be used by our instructors to enter students grades/progress and provide reports.

I could do this by making a logon table and student table then set against it with a form and report somehow linking this in my Joomla website.

I was wondering if there is an addon or extension or component that has already been made that I could use with my Joomla site?

      Any ideas?

      bob

    • welcome bob!

the tool you are looking for seems to be very specific, but you can do some search on the official joomla extensions site. extensions.joomla.org

by the way, before you do anything else, you should update to the latest joomla version 1.5.9, there have been some very important security fixes after 1.5.7.

the easiest way of updating is using the "magic joomla updater", it has gone commercial but there is a free download available here: forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=355077 just click on the file name to downlaod and the install it through your joomla backend
      > extensions > install/uninstall

      hope that helps, kat

You should try Moodle , not Joomla for those functions. In fact, you could easily set up a Moodle site in a subfolder and link to it in your main Joomla site. Further, if you disable the login functions on the Joomla side, you could have Moodle as the exclusive login link that instructors and students can sign up for (they don't bridge, like Joomla and PhpBB3).

      Good luck.

    • I agree. Moodle is a great program for this. There are some discussions on the Moodle site regarding integration between Moodle and Joomla that you might want to check out too.
