"This [my] site may be distributing malware?" Google SNAFU

Posted 16 years 3 months ago
    • ...went to check my sites in my Google Webmaster tools and as of this morning, there is a new Google message going around:

This site may be distributing malware. Google users will see a warning page when they attempt to visit pages within this site. You can visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for your site for detailed information about the problems we found. Help Loading...

Please review StopBadware.org's Security Tips for Websites and make any necessary changes to your site. When you have cleaned your site, you can request a review, and we'll evaluate your site.

And, of course, this so-called 'StopBadware' URL with the details is down (returning 404 for me)...this is killer. My site ( www.bidlesstravel.com ) doesn't have a single Google ad, no external links except a couple to an affiliate, and nothing bad whatsoever....wonder wtf is going on today.

Am I the only one who is seeing this? Not much chatter on Google yet, but this is new today.

    • Rich. I try to request a view and vent and Google returns this:

"An internal error has occured. Please try again later."

    • It just keeps getting better and better; 'We'll just display a warning that makes would-be visitors turn away, force you to request a review and have the warning lifted, which takes 90 days, of course, though our report of your site asserts:'

What is the current listing status for www.bidlesstravel.com ?
This site is not currently listed as suspicious.

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 2 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 0 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2008-12-29, and suspicious content was never found on this site within the past 90 days.
This site was hosted on 1 network(s) including AS30496 (COLO4).

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?

Over the past 90 days, www.bidlesstravel.com did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.

      Has this site hosted malware?

No, this site has not hosted malicious software over the past 90 days.

      Next steps:

      Return to the previous page.
If you are the owner of this web site, you can request a review of your site using Google Webmaster Tools. More information about the review process is available in Google's Webmaster Help Center.

    • Thanks, sir. False alarm. :) ...but a reminder of just how important Google is, especially when upwards of 80% of traffic for many sites are from Google.

I'll call off the dogs... :)
