RokBox can not only be used with any of the RT templates, there's even a standalone version so that it can be used ANYWHERE with ANYTHING (waaay cool I think).
I'd suggest that a nice transparent template like Replicant V2 or even Dimensions with perhaps one of your photographs as a background would be nice for a photography site ... just a personal opinion though. - Ragdata's Rubber Duck

I guess wordpress or joomla should have something for you. It all depends on how much and how often your are updating and what this site is gonna do for you in terms of functionality etc.
Find the cleanest light weight template. I would go with V4. If you are gonna be showing your work, you don't want to clutter and dilute your work with heavy web graphics and all that. Simple is the way to go. Show off your work, not the website. Not that it shouldn't look good but you know what I mean. - Great Links:

i agree. the site is for a friend. i was looking at this wordpress template.

He knows how to use wordpress already so that would be handy. Its a bit pricey though at $179
He would update it once a month. more wanting a place to show client his stuff. wordpress is nice and clean and simple. so thats what i thought would be good. but im open to anything.

replicant2 is a nice suggestion. is there a module i could add that could have a bunch of photos slowly display a slideshow where the style changer is located (in replicant2)
Im sorry im new to joomla.
im realize thats probably easy to do i just dont know how to implement something like that. thanks.

- If your friend knows wordpress. go with wordpress. you can install a lightbox there or rokbox standalone will also work there.

- You can use Frontpage SlideShow component and module. Take a look at http://www.joomlaworks.gr Also, I suggest you to use one of RocketTheme's template and plug it in Joomla! 1.5.

hi mitch!
akiraka is really nice, it is very flexible with a lot of module positions and so easy to change the colors using the colorchoser in the template parameters. i agree with sam, that you better dont put to much graphics which distract from the photos themselves. a darker theme is quite nice in my opinion.
rokbox is great (has a new version released today) and also i can recommend rokslideshow. very easy to install etc. both extensions are available at www.rocketwerx.com
