    Google attacks IE

    • Google has started to directly attack IE when IE users visit Gmail.

When a user goes to Gmail with IE6, they are advised to upgrade to IE7, Firefox or Chrome.

Here's a Tech Radar story about it:

Seems like the first shot across the bow in a new browser war has been started by Google. Apple is doing something similar with Safari. This should be interesting, interesting to see the Microsoft response too, with a much wiser public and world governments (most western world govts sued MS over bundling IE with Windows), I doubt they'll get away with using previous methods to destroy their competition.

    • Quite interesting, I am curious if it will have effects in the end. I think a lot of developers will be quite happy about this effort, finally some action to get MS to improve there product or get rid of it.

    • Yah, Apple do a similar thing with MobileMe. Its great to see large companies like Google doing this, probably won't change the corporate users but those at home, who don't really know better might be more inclined to do so.

Frankly, if Microsoft made IE comparable with Firefox and Safari, then I wouldn't care if anyone used IE lol. Like Andy said, browsers should differ on features and functionality, not rendering!

Yeah I meant Mobile Me, it was way past my bedtime when I wrote that... oops. Although Safari does do those annoying nag windows... "are your sure you want to change your homepage". YUK.

I was too busy to take notice of the first OS and browser wars at the time, but I'm really looking forward to watching how all this plays out, the whole playing field of computing is about to change irrevocably.

This is going to be fun to watch!
