Joomla Mail System

    • Hi,

I have a small problem with the Joomla mail system. My hosting company I am with only allows me to send 200 emails per hour but I have 220 members. So when I send out mail alerts to everyone 20 people miss out.

Is there a component around for Joomla or a script in my CPanel so I can set it that 200 mails will be sent in the hour with the remaining sent the next hour?

      Thanks in advance :cheesy:

    • I haven't seen one but someone may have.

Seems the easiest solution would be to convince your host to up the limit for you. :)
    • Thanks,
      jim

    • Your host will have configured this into the mail server in order to limit spam. I doubt they'd be interested in raising the limit for you (but it might be worth a shot if you have a good relationship with them).

I think it might be time for you to consider a bulk mailing account such as those provided by www.icontact.com - they're cheap, the interface is easy to use and very reliable. This isn't a hosting account - it's specifically for bulk email. I host several customer mailing lists there.

    • Hey,

      Thanks for the replies.

I've already asked the hosting company last time when they raised it from 100 to 200 so don't think they will do it again lol.

I might ask on the Joomla forums to and check back to see if anyone found a "free solution" before I review the commerical products.

    • But that kinda puts you straight back into the same situation, doesn't it?

Any free solution would need to be run via your server - which is limited to 200 emails / hour. Nothing short of a config update is going to change this for you. Apart from that, you may be able to find a 'public' or 'open' email relay server ... but I wouldn't want to be in your shoes if your users find out you've passed their addresses through one.

Failing that, you could try to download all the addresses and run them through a desktop mailer - your ISP might forgive you and reactivate your account if you explain the situation and have had no complaints.

$9.95 / month for 250 subscribers is a small price to pay for avoiding all the hassle you're about to put yourself through.

I was hoping there would have been a cronjob like they have with Jomsocial that I could have setup. But after reading your post, I will have to go with iContact. I certainly do not want to put the site through the problems you discribed.

Thankyou for your help and support! :D

    • Fine for 50 users ... 200 is getting to the threshold that will start seeing his server blacklisted as a source of spam (which will please his hosting provider no end).
