    Creating a Landing Page

Posted 16 years 2 months ago
    • Hi Folks!

I am creating a landing page and would like for it to NOT display the top/main navigation bar. Is there a way to do this? I thought there was a way to have a module for that menu and then select the page(s) to display it on, but I am not seeing that module now...

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    • There are a few ways to do this - but my answer really depends on a few things:

      1) What other Joomla functionality DO you want on the landing page?
      2) If the landing page is for SEO purposes, why on earth would you consider ditching your menu?
      3) If the landing page is not for SEO purposes, why on earth would you consider ditching your menu?

If you don't need any additional Joomla functionality, I would think the easiest way through the problem would be to create a static HTML page. If you do need additional Joomla functionality, you could copy and modify your template not to display the menu and assign your new template to the landing page spot in the menu.

Points 2 & 3 relate to the fact that Search Engines don't treat orphaned landing pages favourably at all these days. To ditch your menu would work against your online marketing efforts in a BIG way. If the reason for the landing page is simple aesthetics, then the above still applies. In short, there is NO good reason for creating an orphaned landing page.

    • Yes, I thought I would need to make a static HTML page in order to achieve this.

And I am aware of the problems orphaned pages pose with SEO - but sometimes you can't convince clients regardless of what you tell them.

      Thanks so much! :cheesy:
