    • my page rank has dropped from 4 to 3 and am trying to find out why. It could just be that somebody with a high page rank has removed my site from theirs. However, I went into Google Webmaster tools would I could find. As far as I could ascertain, I am not being penalised for anything so hopefully can rule that out for my drop in page rank. I did take a screenshot of some errors in the hope that somebody can point me in the right direction of sorting them out. anyway, if anybody could give me some advice, I would be extremely grateful as usual
there are 146 not found URLs, a lot of them are fire board which is not installed any more, is there anywhere or deleting these?

    • Try remove all the trace of fireboard if you are not using it

Check in the root directory if you still have any files remaining for the specific extension

There can be chances that the extension doesn't get removed completely even after uninstallation

Please take backup of your site before doing so
    • Quick tips::
      1) Clear your browser cache if changes dont reflect
      2) Provide link to your site to help us help you better
      3) Use in firebug

    • there is nothing obvious in the root directory, should I be looking in some of the folders?

What about robot.txt, is anything I can do about that? Is it actually needed?

    • Something that just dawned upon me. When I first introduced to site map, I didn't use a Joomla component, I don't think I did. I only replaced the site map using the Google component today. I'm just wondering if there was a delay on Google's behalf before it updates.

    • ...was a major PR revision just a couple days ago, I believe.

To start the long removal process of those 146 bad links, you can go into your Google Webmaster tools backend...tools -> Remove URLs and put in a request for each.

With that many, it's probably best to download the entire table of bad URLs in Excel, trim the URLS down to everything after the first /, then submit a request for removal with a simple cut and paste from excel into Google.

Also, if a lot of them are from DB (I forget the directories/URL structure for FB links), you should probably also add a line in your robots.txt file restricting access....found this to speed up the removal process.

It took me a long time to get rid of 1,000s of asp.net links when I migrated over, then a longer time to get rid of all the long-tail links CB left behind when I ran away from that component...adding a Disallow: /community/members/userlist/ to my robots.txt file seemed to speed up the removal of all the /community type of URLS left by CB, if that makes sense. :)

What you mean by putting in a request for each?

Sorry, can you explain this a little more in layman's terms? Never done this before

    • When you are in your Google webmaster tools overview, on the right, click on tools -> Remove URLS, then in the middle there is a button for "New Removal Request."

Click on this and you'll see a rado button defaulted to "Individual URLs: web pages, images, or other files Remove outdated or blocked web pages, images, and other documents from appearing in Google search results." Click NEXT....

You then enter in the URL for each pink you want to remove, hitting "ADD" after each...once you have then in there (maximum is 100 links per request, so get a bunch in there up to 100, then submit the request, then do another new request).

    • If you still can't find it, let me know and I'll do some screenshots. ;)

Also, on the 'overview' page that is showing the 146 bad links, click on "details" and at the bottom of the page listing all the URLs, there is a "download table" link to save the links in CSV.excel file, which is what I use to trim the URLS to make cutting and pasting easier.

    • Okay, I see what you mean now. I downloaded all of the URLs and they open up in Excel. Are you telling me you have to add them one by one? That will take forever:cry:
