- When I tried to open my wesite today I got a box came up saying mozilla crash reporter. I can't open any site with firefox or IE. Any ideas

- I uninstalled firefox and no longer get the box coming up. However IE still won't open any websites. It starts but then just closes. Is there anyway of unistalling IE8 and going back to IE7

- This may take some time to debug but the first suggestion is to scan your box for malware.

Well, I just waited for the last four hours while McAfee scanned my whole computer but has made no difference at all. it found a few items, like some Trojan horses and quarantined them, I also deleted a couple of other files.If I try and open a website for my desktop, it starts, but just closes down again·so at the moment, my PC is absolutely useless to me.

Time to do a clean install of Windows?
I use Acronis True Image for this very reason.
When something goes amiss, I restore the entire HDD, takes only 20 minutes or so.
If you have to go through all the trouble of reformatting the HHD and reinstalling everything, consider ATR, or some other disk cloning / imaging software. - Thanks,

it's been a long time since I did a clean install of XP Windows. Even then, I actually had a copy of XP. You mentioned the program that will do a clean install? I assume that this can be downloaded it? I have actually backed out a lot of content that I want to keep, this was in case I had to wipe the hard drive or stop obviously it would benefit me greatly if I didn't have to do this because it would mean I don't have to install all the programs that I use on a regular basis again.
Is it possible to give me a little bit more information about this program you mentioned?
BTW, I have just installed Safari and it seems to be working perfectly okay, it doesn't close down like Internet Explorer, very strange - http://www.Oscarfishlover.com - the website for great Oscar Fish advice and help

No, the program I mentioned doesn't do a clean install of Windows.
However, once you have installed Windows and all your other applications and you have everything the way you want, you can create an 'image' or 'clone' of the drive.
Then if you have a problem, you can revert to the last good 'image' or 'clone' of the drive.
Long story short, with all the software I own and all the configuration tweaks I like to do, from start to finish, it take a couple of days for me to set up one computer.
So, after getting everything configured just the way I want, I do a full backup.
I keep a backup of my current documents, mail, browser favorites, etc, on a separate drive.
When something happens, a virus, maleware, system slowdown, etc., I revert to the last full backup, then restore my current documents, mail, browser favorites, etc.
This reduces the process of going from zero to fully functional from a couple of days (for me) to less than an hour.
You have the initial install that takes tons of time, installing the OS, all your applications, updating everything, etc...
But once you make a backup, an 'image' or 'clone' you can revert to it in an hour or less, restoring the system to a stable state.
You can keep updating the 'image' or 'clone' to reflect the latest MS updates along with your virus software profiles, software updates, etc...

Could somebody try and explain the follow instructions to me please? I have followed the roots, as in HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>.NETFramework> INTERNET EXPLORER but I can't find NETFramework for instance.
Actually, before you wipe it, jump in REGEDIT and manually navigate to the following keys. You'll want to right-click and EXPORT the GREEN folders to the desktop (or somewhere safe!). Then right-click and DELETE the GREEN keys, accepting the delete conformation dialog.
HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>.NETFramework> INTERNET EXPLORER
HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT> Advanced INF Setup
HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT> Internet Explorer
HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENT VERSION> Internet
HKCU>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENT VERSION> Internet Settings
HKCC>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENT VERSION> Internet Settings
Note: HKCU = HKey Current User
and
Note: HKCC = HKey Current Config

- Everything is working now, I ended up reinstalling Windows, or should I say performing a recovery which meant I didn't have to manually loaded all the drive is on again
