I have tried to copy a site to another URL but have run into problems using joomlapack. I installed it on the website , made a backup, download the zip file, upload it onto the new URL. I also installed kickstart. When everything had uploaded, I opened the URL, clicked on the kickstart file and followed the instructions. The setup is almost exactly the same as when you install joomla for the first time, the installation went as far as where the database/username listed, it seems to have put in the correct details. However, it will not connect to the database and I get this error message. Any ideas what's going on? All information is exactly correct.

- yes, but only after I got the error message. I was under the impression that it would export the database to the new URL. Anyway, I created a new database using the same name as the old one. However, this particular web hosting is site ground among you create usernames and databases, there is a portion of your URL in front of the what you have called your database/username. So it's not exactly the same name.

Penn,
A) Enter the new database name you're using for Site Ground. When you run the installer, the old DB name appears by default just change it.
Also something to check for, a problem I ran into with my new host. I created a new DB, with a different name because my new host has a similar system which requires a specific name. Even though I used the correct name, it wouldn't connect. I found out later that after you create a new DB, you have to assign a user and permissions. This might be the case.
C) Also check to see if the Host Name is 'localhost' or if Site Ground uses a special name associated with your account.
D) I've use JoomlaPack a lot recently but have not used 'kickstart', I jsut upload the zipped file, extract it on the server, point my browser to the Joomla directory, and the install starts. - Thanks,

- Also the JPA file is supposedly more reliable than the ZIP format, you can change it in administrator settings.
- Always post a link to your site when asking Questions!
Try to articulate your question so someone other than you can understand it.
The best questions are usually 1 sentence with a question mark at the end!

I've had no problems with the default zip files with site over 300MB, how much more reliable?
I back up regularly, download and check the backups, so far not problems.

The zips were all corrupt for me, once my Rochen account was upgraded...and haven't used it since. Shame, as it rocks...felt stupid doing the old fashion way (ftp for 15 minutes 10 seconds..per site).
Never did figure out why it stopped working...

I'm kinda sliding off topic now but it would be so much better if hosts used glFTPd (or another good FTP server) and a site script that supports SFV. This way you could validate that your files got uploaded correctly because of the SFV checker
1. Select the files you want to transfer, right-click to create the SFV with QuickSFV. (This is for Windows)
2. Select the files you want to transfer + the SFV and transfer them via FTP to your webhost.
3. Go to the directory where you uploaded the files and then type: site rescan <directory name>
4. If you had a bad upload, the SFV script will tell you which file that is corrupt.
This is so easy once you get used to it
