Trying to Import Database

  • Trying to Import Database

Posted 15 years 6 months ago
    • I created a subdomain and installed Joomla & kunena. Then I exported the database from another website that's also had kunena installed. On the new site I delete the database and try to import the one I taken from the other website. It took for ages and then I got this message

The server was not able to find the document (./502.shtml) you requested.
Please check the url and try again. You might also want to report this
error to your web hosting provider

I then tried importing just the Joomla database files and not the kunena tables but then I just got a blank page. Everything went in to the database but then I got this message when trying to open the website

DB function failed with error number 1146
      Table 'thefade_joom13.jos_session' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT session_id FROM jos_session WHERE session_id = '092d5926226c80011d04bf20201fe8e0'
      SQL =

      SELECT session_id
      FROM jos_session
      WHERE session_id = '092d5926226c80011d04bf20201fe8e0'

It is quite a big database saw not sure whether that is the problem. I've done exactly the same thing with much smaller websites and everything worked every time.

    • Here is my suggestion:

      1. Take a backup
      2. Copy all files from current/old site to new site location
      3. Export the database tables
      4. Create a new blank database (with no tables)
      5. Import the tables from the current/old site
      6. Make necessary changes to configuration.php

Everything should be fine ..I personally wouldn't do new installations of Joomla/Kunena if you have the files - just move them.

    • Thanks for that, I will certainly try doing it that way, . I have used Joomla pack recently, anybody else uses?

Also, if you change from 1.0x to 1.5, is there any way of making sure that if people follow the old links to the 1.0 site, they still arrive at your new 1.5 site?

that's not been so reluctant to change one of my sites, it gets tons of hits, and I'm worried that if people see a 404 page, they would just ignore it. Obviously people will still arrive at the home page whatever you do with the site, but I've got links to many other pages within the site.

    • I can't make up my mind which way to backup the site. Should I use Joomla pack, or just download all the files from the directory onto my computer and then just upload them into the need directory? Then make a backup of just the database?

    • i dont use any extensions to move or backup sites .. only because if you are going to use an extension there is an added chance something could go wrong.

doing it the old fashioned way, as in click click, is solid enough for me and i dont delete anything until the new one is up and i've got a backup of it ..

re. redirects from 1.0 to 1.5 there is a plugin called backlinks.php in 1.5 which basically redirects old 1.0 style URL's to the new 1.5 URL's so that part is taken care of ..

    • I'd forgotten how easy Joomla pack was to use. However, in hindsight letting my users create their own online galleries was probably not such a bright idea. Yes, people love that kind of thing, however, downloading and uploading the site takes forever. I think I might have to remove the photos before attempting to back up the site, if not it is going to take forever

I don't quite understand how this works. When you upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5, the old URLs from the 1.0 application can still be found through any engine search. Obviously within time, these URLs will disappear won't they? so if you've already deleted all the old 1.0 files and replace them with 1.5, will this file still work?

    • I made a backup using joomla pack and have now tried to download it. I am on different computer and it has AVG, the free edition. So I start the download and when it gets to 9 MB the AVG box comes up telling me that there is a threat and stops the download. The only thing it says is "exploit link to known exploit site" there isn't any virus code that I can see. Idid start downloading the file on the other computer but this did not happen so I don't understand what's going on and why this is happening. I tried in both Firefox and Internet Explorer and the same thing happened when it got to 9 MB. Any ideas?

    • Download the files using an FTP client, not a browser.
    • Thanks,
