anyone see a site start getting 500 Internal Server Errors

I'm dealing with this with a client's site that's running Hivemind. Worked fine for the last year. Survived Joomla upgrades, back up and reinstallation, etc.
However, today, without warning, it just stopped working. It's hosted by everyone's favorite host (smirk) Godaddy and they say it's not them and that I have to do something with the htaccess file or else they can't determine anything about issues the server may be having.
They made some upgrade to the server configuration that's supposed to take up to 24 hours to take effect. I'm not very confident in them though.
Any clue on how I'd troubleshoot and/or fix?

- Thx Amandeep. I saw this post on joomla.org. Still don't know why the error occurred but godaddy upgraded the server configeration and now it's working again. Their servers have PHP 4.x and are generally slow and clunky. I wish I could get the this client to jump to another host.

This issue probably relates to hosting server issue
Best way would be also to go for Php 5
