medium level web hosting

    • I have this basic level godaddy linux web hosting. This (probably, but most obviously) is causing my website to literally crawl. I checked some advanced web hosting packages by GoDaddy but found them to be very steep and expensive, especially in the case of Dedicated server hosting or virtual hosting (which is relatively cheaper, but still expensive).

I checked Servint also, as I could see lots of references to the same here but honstle speaking, as of today, when I have just launched the website it is seeming a bit steep. I have to shell out the whole amount from my pocket and this website is meant for students basically out of a no-profit cause, pure information basis with literally no revenue model.

Please suggest what could be incremental but value based hosting package, which is certainly better than basic free website packages in terms of browsing speeds but is not all that steep in price also.

      Suggestions are all welcome.

      Thanks and best regards

    • You've heard the expression "there is no such thing as a free lunch"

I found that you get what you pay for. Because of the nature of Joomla, it is going to carry a little bit more weight than a simple HTML page so if you place it on cheap hosting, don't be surprised if it is slow. I am now with host gator and I'm extremely pleased with it. I think it's $175 a year for the business package. For what I get with my package, I consider that to be a very reasonable price to pay.

Dedicated servers are going to be very very expensive. However I think these are only beneficial if you are generating a lot of traffic.

    • hey penn

thanks for quick reply and your honest opinion. I will definitely check Gator and post my feedback here after exploration.

I am willing to pay but am a little concerned about the money part because there is no money coming in from any revenue. So basically spending from the pocketmoney.

I agree perhaps I do not need a dedicated one at the moment. I just checked Virtual server from Godaddy (256MB RAM)- 29USD per month

But Gator is looking good that ways for the whole year.

      Thanks again

    • I checked it out... seems cheap than the rest but is the speed comparatively better?

    • I am using the Host Gator, as suggested, on a trial basis.

I am really enjoying the smae, as of now.

Let us see how does it perform when the usage builds up

    • I can't think of a bad word to say about HG. Their speed is really good, you won't be disappointed there.

The support is fantastic. You can talk to somebody live via the C panel which you access by the Forum. They are there 24/7 and respond almost instantaneously.
