JoomPack backup directory

    • When you install JoomPack for the first time and make a backup, you are warned about the output directory. They have made it very easy and Joomla 1.5 to change this directory to whether you want. I was wondering what other people do. I was wondering whether it be a good idea to create a backup directory in your main route and then password protect it so no matter what, nobody can gain entry to it. Is this feasible?

    • hi penn,

i usually keep the default directory as is, run the backup, download the backup file and remove it from the server. i dont think anything can go wrong this way.

That's probably the best idea. tend to keep a lot of information such as passwords on an external hard drive and another computer, just to make absolutely sure.

    • And now for some strange reason when I made changes so JoomPack would actually deposit back up in the main directory it didn't work properly. It was backing up 1.95 MB of the site. When I change things back to the default setting it seemed to back up the site properly. Why would this be?

For that question you should probably ask on the JoomlaPack forum... :D

I've had similar issues, default really works best; zip file and the JoomlaPack directory.

As soon as the backup us done, I just drag the backup (zipped file) from the default directory to another folder I used to store backups.

I think the 'warning' is to let people know that leaving the backup in the default directory is a security risk, as long as you move it after the backup, you should be safe.

Through your CP, you can move the file quite easily.

Even if someone could hack into the path and was sitting there right when you made the backup, there'd be no way for them to DL the zip before you could move it.
