    In Kind - A possible win-win

Posted 18 years 2 months ago
    • Hey guys,

I know, really cryptic subject line. I was just thinking today how much talent there is on this website, and how little talent I have when it comes to coding and such.

So, I wanted to propose something to you all. I consider myself a pretty decent photographer (okay, a professional when it comes to Yacht Racing), so would entertain trading "stock" photography for assistance with website coding, etc. in the future.

Obviously, there is a lot of free help here just from browsing the forums, but I wanted to put it on the table that I think we could all win from the good old bartering system as well.

Anyway, if you think this sounds good to you, feel free to contact me. In the meantime, you can see a selection of my yachting shots here:
      www.blastreach.com/projects.htm

      Some of my newer shots:

I have other shots that are not yachting, but I need to put those together online. Currently, you can see many of them at my photography club website under my username "blastreach":

    • Sounds like a good idea to me. Do you do studio photography at all or only outdoors type shots?

And are you suggesting trades on stock photography that you have already collected, or actually going out and getting specific shots that are requested?

      Hey Philip,

I don't normally do studio portraits as I've just not been able to justify the cost of putting a studio together. One can do 'studio' photography, however, without a studio if one has the need (putting together makeshift lighting, or using ambient light in a controlled environment).

Regarding existing vs. future, I think both. If say, you needed a specific type of photo, and it was within my power to get it, I would be happy to seek it out and take it. As you would see, the time it would take for me to do that, then post process it, would equate into either the same time it would take you to do a project for me (and obviously that time wouldn't be padded).

      Just an idea.

I'm no yachting fan but I must say, some of your photographs are utterly stunning.

      Dan,

      Thanks for the compliment.

      John,

I like what I did with it on www.inlandempiredslr.org better.

Other than that, it works just fine. I need to update it though.

    • I broke away from Zoom gallery and tried Coppermine. It seemed reliable, but the interface seemed squirrelly to me. It seemed to double up on the photos and was a little confusing at first. There may be a way to alter the interface.

I found Gallery 2 to be the best for Joomla, IMHO. It too required a little work to customize the look, but there seemed to be more options for that. WARNING: Gallery 2 requires a heftier amount of server Ram, though. But, if you adjust the performance parameters down, you may be able to run it without having the hosting company put your site on a server that allots more Ram.
