    • The Recent Videos module that comes with the Hyperion template can't play true 16:9 videos. So if I want to do that I have to add some padding to the top and to the bottom of the videos and make it 4:3. And I also have to convert my .mov or .wmv videos to .flv. Now I'm using a software called SUPER ( http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html ) for this process, but I'm looking for a simpler software. So does anybody know a free software that can do these things (converting .mov or .wmv to .flv with the ability to add a specified size of padding to the top and the bottom of the video and also change the size of it) and is simpler than SUPER? Thanks.

    • I use Camtasia Studio 6, but it's not free...

Best bet is to Google for some free application.

    • Okay I found this software called Any Video Converter and it's amazing (and free :) ). It can do everything I want to do with it and I don't have to wait a half hour only one or two minutes. The quality of the converted videos is also perfect. I recommend it to everyone who needs a fast and free converter.

    • If you use firefox, search this addon: downloadhelper
It converts to flv while downloading from youtube, or other video hosting site.

    • For those that want to look at commercial tools, there are two that I can recommend:

Sorenson Squeeze and ProCoder. Both handle a lot of formats both in and out and deliver very good quality. They are also able to do the job quickly. The downside is the price. None of them are exactly cheap... Sorenson has an online encoder that you can try for free to test WebM - www.sorensonmedia.com/vp8/ , but if you need to transcode between 29.97 (NTSC) and 25 (PAL), then ProCoder is probably your best choice - www.grassvalley.com/products/procoder_3 . Both ProCoder and Sorenson Squeeze can use a so-called "watch-folder" so you can set up a computer as a dedicated transcoder and just drop the files that needs to be converted into that folder and it gets transcoded automatically.

Another alternative that has excellent quality is TMPGEnc - tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp.html and it is not too bad in price. Of course, it can not produce .flv, only convert FROM it...

Just a few words about the heavy end of the scale :-) Also, don't forget that if you already have AfterEffects from Adobe, you can do pretty much of the converting in there, but maybe not as efficient as in the other mentioned packages.
