Help: Moving my Joomla stuff to a new site

Posted 18 years 2 months ago
    • I thought it would be easy, but I am stuck. Here's where I'm at:

Ok, so I just uploaded all of my Joomla content into my new site. Where I am having problems is in the database. I go into phpMyAdmin and go to import, upload my database, but wait... it doesn't finish importing. I get the following error:
      Error

      SQL query:

      --
-- Table structure for table `jos_artbanners`
      --
      DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `jos_artbanners` ;

      MySQL said: Documentation
      #1046 - No database selected

Am I going about it the wrong way? BTW, that is the only copy of the database I have.

    • I am not really concerned about the users and such that is in the database. Is there a way to retrieve the articles and implant them into a fresh Joomla install? That's primarily what I'm concerned about, I don't want all that work to be gone.

      So the update is:
      • Is there anything in the DB that I need, other than users info? If not, I can do without that.
      • How do I extract, if possible, articles from my old Joomla and integrate them with a new Joomla?

I think that's all I need. Hope you experts can help... please?

    • Go buy JoomlaCloner its a one time investment and a very good one..
Takes seconds to clone and move a whole install including all user stuff, comments, content etc.. and it will install the new joomla site as it should be.

    • Thank you Thomas. As I read the details and used the demo version I am getting the impression that you need to have the Joomla version you want cloned installed. Is that correct or can I somehow upload my "zipped" Joomla to the Cloner component through FTP?

My situation: I do not have Joomla installed, only the backup file from the server.

      Thanks in advance,
      AJ

    • AJ - I don't know if you've contacted JoomlaCloner support, but I've found them to be extremely helpful and quick in responding. My guess is that they can talk you through it.

    • Thank you Natalie for responding. I did follow Thomas' advice and went to JoomlaCloner. It worked for my situation, and I agree with, Natalie, that they are very helpful indeed. Thanks again.
