I LOVE accidentally deleting an entire site. It's SOOO much fun.
I'm right there with you though. I have my tennis club's site that I do for free and and my roommate's bowling league and another little site that I'm working on in addition to my own site (with my brother's personal site on a sub-domain). And I'm paying for hosting on all but one.
I know what you mean about this being relaxing. I do it for fun. But I will usually at least put Google ads in a semi-inconspicuous area to maybe get a little click-through rev since I'm doing it for free. I don't think anyone has a problem with that.

I always just tell those that are inclined to ask me to do a job for free or for an incredibly reduced rate this:
"Well sure sir/ma'am I can do this one for free for you but theres just one catch: I will be bringing myself and my 5 kids over for supper a few times a week for the next month or so...."
That usually does the trick!
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Hey Dave,
I purchases a reseller account with hostnine.com and other than one tiny issue they have been perfect.
File permissions! If I use the Joomla installer to install a template it is there for life! The server, by default, sets the owner of the files as nobody, and nobody is exactly who can delete them. So I got adventurous and went into the cpanel and found the file manager.
I thought I was trying to delete the template, but instead deleted the public_html file ooops! :'(
The funny part? I can delete a whole site, but I can't delete folders inside. DOH!
I love everything these guys have to offer, but this is a deal breaker and a half if they can't fix it.

Yikes, that's a odd one there. Hope you get in repaired.

ahhh thats a classic .gif!
I do many sites but never free...though in a few cases I have used the barter system and got more value than actually charging cash
For instance I did a site for my sons sport club (less their hosting which I charged at $39.95 a month ) for the site I got a full sponsership for the club which meant to me in return for my sponsership, I got 2 huge signs on their field, a sign in their clubrooms, my sons yearly fees waived ($350 for the year) a full sponsers kit like club wear, jacket shirt ,hats etc and they have a full Bar at the club which provides me free drinks and food when I visit! Not to mention having a full page advertisment in all their weekly game books! man I did good i thought!
Also for the motorbike track I ride at with my son. I used to spend at least $80-100 a week in riding entry fees then the yr memberships..so I said hey you need a site! and we did the deal I now pay zero for riding, no membership, AND a sign on the track!
But my wife now says no more sponship deals...hey great for advertising.
The moral of this storey is do as the gif says...when he asks for a site ask for a car...you'll be suprised! you may not get a car but there are more than just car dealers out there, and the barter system can really step up the quality of living!
