Posted 14 years 10 months ago
    • Hi

I am wondering what Joomla SEF extension you recommend for MOXY template. I am thinking using sh404SEF. Does it work?

    • If you don't heve alot of third party extensions, the Joomla core SEF works well.

    • No problem...

It doesn't hurt to try anyway....

      Basic Core SEF:

If joomla is in the root; htdocs, or public_html...

In Global Configurations, Search Engine Friendly URLs Yes, Use Apache mod_rewrite Yes, Add suffix to URLs No.

      Change htaccess.txt to .htaccess.

If it’s in a folder, you need to change the # RewriteBase / to reflect the path of your site.

      Change:

      # RewriteBase /

      to:

RewriteBase /(the name of the folder joomla is in)

If that doesn't work, search or post here:

      forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=544

If you are using a 3rd part component, contact the developer.

Note: If you do go with a 3rd party component, and you have alot of other 3rd party components, be sure the developer supports all of them.

    • Thanks. My Joomla file is in the Root or htdocs so I did the following.

In Global Configurations, Search Engine Friendly URLs Yes, Use Apache mod_rewrite Yes, Add suffix to URLs No.
I used FTP to change htaccess.txt to .htaccess.

      Now the test website shows:
      Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Is it because Joomla core SEF doesn't support RocketTheme?

    • No, RT themes are fully Joomla (SEF) compatible.

Are you sure that the root path is correct?

Usually, there's an .htaccess file in the root.... when you renamed the htaccess.txt, did you receive a warning that it would over write the .htaccess file?

Check the contents of the .htaccess file, should look something like this:
      ##
      # @version $Id: htaccess.txt 10492 2008-07-02 06:38:28Z ircmaxell $

      # be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
      # your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to

    • The only major problem with native SEF for Joomla is that it is menu based. So if you have Menu/Sub Item/Sub Item that's the url you'll get. (domain/menu/sub/sub) I've had mixed results with this URL structure in search engines. From my testing, I get better results if the url is just domain/sub.

Only way around that is to use the hidden menu and create links to the individual pages, but for a large site that's way too much of a headache.

      Just my 2 cents anyway!
