I happened upon this story buried in the RocketTheme vaults. I'm not sure if it's true, and Andy doesn't know that I found it. But I think it's something you all deserve to see.
Rhuk
Andy Miller began his life on a distant planet far away in the Outer Rim territories. From the time he was a child, his aunt and uncle kept him hidden away on their farm so as not to draw attention to him or his true heritage. He was given the name Andy Miller, a seemingly innocuous name that would not throw up any red flags, for his true name and heritage, were it to be known, could mean disaster for the family as well as the entire universe.
As Andy grew up, he found the ordinary life of a farmer to be dull and uninspiring. He dreamed of so much more, dreamed he could be so much more; but alas, how could a boy from a dusty planet in the farthest reachest of the galaxy be anything special?
One day, while accompanying his uncle on some routine business; they happened across some droid peddlers. His uncle, deciding they needed some extra farmhands, began to haggle with the peddlars and chose to purchase two very fiesty droids. Andy was given the task to take them home and wipe their memories.
As Andy began his task, the smaller droid suddenly began to project a holographic message. The message showed a beautiful woman who appeared very distressed. She was pleading with whoever was listening to this message to help her in her plight. The message had become corrupted and it was hard to make out her voice. "The universe is filled with php err......, division by zero....., great functionality but horrible graphic design......, help us to restore balance to the internet".
Andy couldn't understand what she meant by all of this. "Division by zero"? "Restore balance to the internet"? It didn't make sense. He decided to take the droids to an old hermit who lived in the wastes. The hermit was a good friend of his and very wise.
Upon arriving at the hermit's home, he played him the message. The hermit listened intently as the beautiful woman repeated her pleas. After the message finished, Andy asked him if he knew what the message meant. The hermit replied "Yes, the woman speaks of the epic struggle that is taking place all across the internet. Millions of rebel websites have begun to spring up using an ancient force. They have rebelled against the evil empire who seeks to rule the internet with lackluster design and poor functionality. You must learn the ways of this force, Rhuk!"
Andy stopped suddenly as he heard what the hermit had called him. "Rhuk?, why do you call me that?" The hermit replied, "It is your true name, of course. You were hidden from the evil web empire as a baby for they knew that you were a danger to them. There is a prophecy, you see, that one day someone would come with the strongest web design abilities the universe had ever seen and would restore balance to the force. You are that someone"
Struggling to take it all in, Andy sat in silence for a few moments. How could he be the one to restore balance to the force? He didn't even know what the force was, nor did he know anything about this "web design" the hermit spoke of. Just as Andy began to repeat these thoughts to the hermit, a sound of a large explosion broke the silence. "Quick Rhuk, we must hurry, there isn't much time. You must follow me". A sudden panic fell over Andy as he realized the urgency of the situation. He saw the hermit head towards the back of his home motioning for him to follow. As Andy rose to his feet, he knew one thing was for sure, his life was about to get much more eventful....
Will Andy escape with the hermit and learn the ways of this force? Will Andy restore balance to the force and defeat the evil empire who seeks to destroy the internet with terrible web design? Will Andy find his inner strength and embrace his heritage and become Rhuk, the greatest web designer the universe has ever seen? Find out next time, on, Rockettheme!
@ Dan... I have it on good advice that there will not be a March template. Rhuk has decided to take a break from fighting the forces of bad web designl.
"Hurry Rhuk, we must hurry!" The old hermit motioned Andy to follow and led them to back of the house and out the back door. They rushed to the safety of the mountains not far from the hermit's house. Andy turned back and could see smoke and fires in the distance. "What is happening?" The hermit did not answer, but continue hastily towards the mountainous terrain.
As they neared the mountains they began to see wreckage. Several pieces of burned wreckage seemed to be moving, as they grew closer Andy could make out small moving images. One had a dancing yellow object, some type of fruit he imagined, singing what seemed to be a song in a language he couldn't understand. Another was covered with flashing words and symbols he could not understand. "What is all of that?" he thought out loud. "Animated gifs" the hermit replied with an angry overtone in his voice. Andy hoped he would elaborate further, but the hermit said no more.
Nearing the first foothills, the wreckage became much more dense, with many more occurances of these "animated gifs" the hermit had spoken of. Then, as they rose over the first foothill they saw an enormous vehicle. Andy recognized it as the one belonging to the peddlars that had sold him and his uncle the two droids. Wreckage laid all around it and the vehicle itself had been completely covered in a purple colouring, with green coloured words written all across its front. Animated gifs, flashing text, and scrolling phrases could be seen along its sides. "What is all of that, I can't make out what it says". The hermit replied, "I would expect you can't, there are few who can read words in that manner. But you can be sure, this is the work of the Empire. Only Imperial Web Designers could create such a thing!"...
