Still having a few problems with the menu...

  • Still having a few problems with the menu...

    • Well, I thought centering up my content had fixed my menu acting odd problems, but they resurfaced this morning. Ome thing that stands out to me as strange is that on my horizontal menu, if you lessen the width of the browser...one of the menu items drops down to a second line. There are 7 items on the menu, and only the last one drops down to a second line, the other 6 do what I would expect and stay where they should and a scroll bar appears on the bottom and you have to scroll over to see them. Is there some syntax I can put in there to tell it to all stay on one line?

      Thanks,
      David Henderson

    • OK, guess I should ask a different question first. Is there a command in css to force no line break? I just assumed there was. If not, is there some way to force your stuff to stay on one line?

      Thanks,

    • Fyi, here's what I see when I go to your site (attached cropped/reduced size image).

      <<< FF latest/ Win XP - running at 1024 X 768

Note the horizontal scrollbar and the horizontal menu has two rows.

I would consider rethinking your menu system... do you really need all those items on the horizontal menu?

[side note] your server response seems to be quite slow, for what it's worth

Wish I could help, best of luck.

      Cheers!

    • Yes, the last menu item dropping to the second bar is what I'm trying to stop. I'll run the idea from your second post by the guy I'm making the site for..if it at least gets him to thin kthat it can be done a different way, that may be a big help all on it's own.

      Thanks,

    • I am going to try setting a fixed width and see if that helps it at all. Only problem I am encountering is how to do my blue bar menu divider. It's in 3 pieces, one in the center and one on each side. I tried setting up the middle as centered, but it seemed a bit more to the left of the screen, so I am a bit stuck there. I don't even know where to start on getting the side pieces in there. I can't use left/right and a number of pix because the distance would change based on screen resolution I assume? Anyways, anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

      Thanks,

    • Ok, it doesn't seem like my bar is off center. It seems like my page is. The center wrapper seems to be pushed to the right. Not sure why, trying to figure out if there is padding shoved in there somewhere or something.

      Good luck mate.

I find Firefox and the web developers toolbar extension to be very handy for diagnosing issues such as this.

    • Ok I did the realtime edit css with the web dev toolbar, and it seems it wasn't padding. For some reason I had to set it to 1032px to get it to be in the center. I originally had it set to 992, and it was a bit to the right. Then I tried setting it to 855 and it was REALLY far to the right. No idea why, but since I am on a deadline here, I will have to just set it to 1032 until I have time to figure out why it won't center:(

      Thanks,

Edit: Actually I had to set it to 1064:( Anyone know what could be causing this? Also, anyone know how I can get the align area to only be as large as the wrapper part? That way I can say float: left or right for the side pieces of my menu divider? Somehow the logo sees the end as the wrapper area because I have it set to left: 0px and it is only at the end of the wrapper, not all the way left on the page. Don't know why the bars won't do that.
