    • I use Mailwasher and Thunderbird damo, the combination does all that I need.

Just out of curiosity, why are you dumping Thunderbird?

      Cheers!

    • i've just done an upgrade to 1.5.0.10 and it's taken three hours which i really wasn't happy with. after all appers to be working the client is now not able to communicate with server. i'm back on outlook express for now ...

i'd rather pay for something like an email client and feel confident (as best as you can) for something like mail as its quite an important function of what i do.

    • I've tried and liked Eudora. Right now I use Thunderbird and I am satisfied. Eudora released their final commercial version and now will switch to open source. The new open source Eudora will be released this year.

      Ouch. :'( That sucks.

My 1.5.0.10 update took about 30 seconds and was clean as a whistle. I'm very sorry to hear about your negative experience.
Did you have many Thunderbird extensions installed - for what it's worth, I don't have any installed? Fyi, my Thunderbird is set to auto-update, I fired it up, the update notification appeared and I chose to update and zip, it was done. Lucky me.

      Best of luck mate.

      Cheers!

    • i'm still using microsoft outlook.. i got office 2007 through, and i'm extremely impressed with all the new apps.

i use exchange 2003 with outlook though, i haven't used POP3/SMTP for a couple years..

i run all my mail through g-mail tho, and then forward it to my exchange address.. it absolutely kills the spam

Want to kill spam at your exchange server?
      Use this free greylisting software.
      www.grynx.com/projects/greylist
I have a SMTP forwarding site setup since Dec 1st which has blocked 7,646,417 (yes 7 million) spam messages with a 97% block ratio!
      Greylisting is very effective.

If you want to get off of M$ exchange this project looks very promising:
      www.open-xchange.com/header/community_area.html
They are working on a vmware image with the latest version of the project.
