Hi sorry if this is off topic but I am receiving no help at all in the MAMP and Joomla! forums, and this is my favorite online community. MAMP just stopped working out of the blue for me. I uninstalled it using Appzapper (which apparently got rid of two other files in addition to the app), and reinstalled MAMP again. Still, I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error when I attempt to view the MAMP startup page, or anything placed in the htdocs folder. I am a freelance web designer, and this has completely halted production for a couple days now, and as you can imagine it kinda sucks. Any help at all would be very much appreciated. I am willing to start from scratch (already wiping all my sites off, as I have them stored elsewhere). No solution too drastic, I just need to get this working again.
Did you put any .htaccess file in the htdocs folder?
Did you change the owner and group in the configuration?
Could you please also check the error log on /Applications/MAMP/logs/ ?
I suspect that I downloaded a .htaccess file from my webhost's server, and that caused the issue. I am now running a fresh install of MAMP with no .htaccess files anywhere (I change OS settings to display . files). I am not familiar with owner and group in the configuration, what is that? I checked the logs, and here is what they say:
apache log:

I opened the mySQL log in textedit, and it was blank, not sure what this means.
A new factor has arisen: MySQL server won't start; it stays red. Does this provide insight into the root of the issue, and are there strategies for dealing with this? Strange that MySQL started doing this just now, and not a the beginning of MAMP not working.
Hello Everet,
Sorry if I can't help too much, I never encounter the same problem with Mamp before. How about trying to uninstall it again? Delete the entire mamp folder from the application folder as well as the de,appsolute.mamp.plist from the library/preferences folder.
