The never-ending FORUM decision--which way to go...

  • The never-ending FORUM decision--which way to go...

    • I had been waiting for a long time for vB 4.0 to come out to upgrade one of my large html sites with a large forum. Now that 4.0 is out, I am planning on moving away from vB. I'm a long-time fan of vB 3.x and just not happy with the look, design and bugginess of 4.0.

On another new Joomla site, I need to add a forum. All of the members from the current vB site will be visiting and participating on the new site/forum as well. The closer I can get to vB in features, functions and feel, the better for a variety of reasons. And I'm hoping that after I get my feet wet in a new platform, it will be a the right choice to convert my main forum as well as upgrade the site from html to Joomla.

I've spent quite a bit of time reading all kinds of forums and blog posts about the different forum platforms.

I'd love a seamless integration with Joomla, but alas, I am not that impressed with Kunena, Agora, SMF or any others that are seamless (as compared to vB).

myBB seems like a good upcoming product.

Any non-seamless solution will involve jFusion, which in the past has had compatibility issues with CB and some other large components. Not sure if there are still issues, but I have trepidations about this decision.

Then factor in the look and whether or not a solution will work with the template.

I see that RT has some commitment to phpBB, but in my research, myBB seems to come out on top.
Are people that are using phpBB also using jFusion?

      Looking for ideas, insights, etc.
