Uinstalling crappy components, modules and bot - Completely and CLEANLY!!

Posted 18 years 1 month ago
    • Sometimes, when I uninstall something, I can't re-install. I've found that when I uninstall a component, module or bot (especially a module) I have to manually remove the files by FTP and use PHP MyAdmin to access my database and remove it there also - plus do a search in my database for the name and delete that too. Then it allows me to install cleanly. Anyone else use this technique?

All you great coders don't laugh at me!!

    • That looks familar ;D I find that i have to delete the files in FTP also. But, that is normally a sign of a really poor designed component/module so i rarely try it again!

    • Sometimes when I install a component, or like the problem I had installing the vortex template (since it is like 5 times the size of all the other templates!LOL) I get a timeout, and try again and it says it's already there, so I go to the install menu and find it in the list and click the radio button and hit uninstall, but sometimes it says it's still there. I also have this happen sometimes when I am just uninstalling to do a fresh upgrade. What I do to remedy this is much easier than what you have described, and has worked for me 100% everytime. I just open up fire ftp, go to the components directory, or tmeplates, or wherever whatever it is would be, hit refresh for the directory, and see if it's in the list, if it's not, I close fireftp and install it with no problem, if it is there, I right click it and delte, then go and install. Has worked for me everytime with no problem.
