Sorry for so many questions lately but getting hit from all sides right now. Can something like virtuemart or something else handle a big national company wanting to sell online? If you have any experience with large companies and selling I would appreciate any advice you could give me!

I'd stay away from VM for larger sites.
VM is OK for smaller shops but if you're taking it national I'd look for a better solution.
If they are a national company then they can afford an enterprise system.
Just my 2 cents.
