It's a text editor that you can freely download. Go to Joomla.org. You can find it in the Extensions section. It's similar to the TnyMCE editor that installs with Joomla, but a few more features.

I've been reading the 'Best Commerciall Editor' thread and am thinking about trying something new. I need to sort through all the recommendations.

    • I have used TMedit which seemed find until it would not do auto paragraphs and the idea of HTML coding everything was not appealling.

I currently use WYSIWYG Pro which is a great purchase but it has FF issues, it have both installed to deal with both browsers if anyone is annoyed by the FF issues.

I would like to find another!

    • I don't want to say anything bad about it, I have the commercial version.

Register and read the forum posts. www.cellardoor.za.net/

My personal opinion is that it had it's place and time. If all you do is news/blog style articles then it's a decent editor. I had to stop using it when I joined RT. Not because it's a bad editor, because of different conflicts I had with the way it does things. I liked TMedit for basic functions. Now I use FCKeditor and it does what I need without all of the conflicts and performance hits I took with JCE.

JCE did teach me something. The default editor you use on your site has a big impact on performance. Switching editors isn't a good thing if you go back and re-edit stuff like I do daily. They usually don't like each other. I am getting to the point where I can do most things with no wysiwyg editor, out of necessity more then by choice.

    • I have been using JCE for a few months now, and I did come across some limitations, but then I learned to use it's extended element feature and have never looked back since. I haven't come across anything that I couldn't do with JCE now that I understand how to use the extended elements.

Wm or David, not sure... But I'm interested in the extended elements that you are talking about. I see what Mack means, but I want to exhaust the possibilities before I leave JCE and find a commercial editor. How do you use the Extended Elements? Is there a tutorial? At the JCE website?

I'd like to know. JCE is really lacking when it comes to documentation. I've got the registered version. by extended elements do you meant the extras you get when you buy it? Because when I load those, I don't see much difference except you can resize graphics when you upload them.
