Menu Foods, a Canadian company based outside Toronto that produces pet food, said Saturday it was recalling dog food sold throughout North America under 50 brands and cat food sold under 40 brands including Iams, Nutro and Eukanuba. The food was distributed by major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.
An unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, the company said.

Fortunatley i live in Europe but this is an out rage. As a pet owner, this is disgraceful!

Just to clarify, dry pet food is NOT affected by this, only wet pet food.
This is a very serious issue for pet owners, we're tossing out any wet food pouches that we have here. - The member formerly known as Roland Deschain

- One of my dogs hasn't been feeling well the past week, and I had seen this on the news, but at that time they said it was just the store brands. Now I see that Mighty Dog pouches are on the list and that is the food he eats!

Get him to the vet now Donna - caught early renal failure can be treated.

- My vet has always said that dry dog food is better for your pets teeth than wet. I don't give him wet dog food, except on occasion as a special treat. I'm glad RTers are looking out for others. I'd be just as devastated if something happened to my dog as I would a (human) family member! (It's amazing how attached you get to animals in such a short time).

I just got home and checked the numbers. The Mighty Dog boxes I buy have 3 different flavor pouches. Two of the flavors have numbers involved in the recall, one does not.
My other dog eats dry food, but I use the excess gravy from the Mighty Dog to flavor her dry food.
It doesn't look like anyone vomited today, and neither has lost their appetite at all. So it seems they're okay.
They're both elderly and one has had cancer for awhile, but they're still hanging in there! www.takibell.com

- Well, I thought Taki was okay last night but this morning he couldn't eat. Went to the vet and there's definitely a kidney problem. Will get the full lab results tomorrow.
