Hi,
The first time I used RT was with Affinity where I downloaded the demo and altered the pages of the demo that I wanted and deleted those pages I didn't want. These may sound like stupid questions, but ...
Was that the right way to do this?
Or are there alternate ways?
and how does Wordpress and phpBB3 integrate together with RT?
Has someone written a white paper describing suggestions along these lines?

The best way to create your own site is to install the RL and edit the content.
There are many themes you can DL if you are a member to various clubs.
But keep in mind while, Joomla and phpBB3 go well together, there is no rhyme or reason in combining Joomla and Wordpress.
Joomla + phpBB3 = OK
WP + phpBB3 = OK? (Not an expert, so I can't say for sure)
Joomla + phpBB3 + WP = No Way - Thanks,
