Joomla Administration - Sluggish

I'm not sure if this is directly related to my system or the actual templates, but when using the Joomla Administrator from Firefox (windows platform) it seems extremely sluggish. I mean it's painful and time consuming to develop a site. I tried using Google Chrome and it's definitely faster. I try to stay away from IE for the administrative work. I have not tried Safari for Windows.
I have experimented with a few of the Joomla Admin templates, but I can't be sure if they are that much better. Of course, this could be my computer, but I have tried this from multiple machines and it seems to be the same. Would like to know what others have experienced. I really like the Joomla platform, but the performance of setting up a site is extremely slow and tedious.

I have no speed problems (that I have noticed) with the admin side of any of my Joomla sites on any of my computers (all are oldish notebooks and netbooks). I use the default admin template and FireFox. I live in Australia, and all my sites are on servers in the USA. I have an ordinary cable internet connection - 256Kbps up, IIRC.
